To ask the First Minister what action, within what timescale, the Scottish Executive will take to implement the recommendations of the Transport and the Environment Committee's 4th Report, 2002 on Petition PE327 in order to meet the commitment to environmental justice in respect of rural communities affected by the application of sewage to neighbouring fields.

The answer

We take these issues very seriously. While we will respond to the recent report by the Transport and Environment Committee within two months, I want the Parliament to note that the Waste Management Licensing Regulations are due to be reviewed and tightened up this year.

Answered by Jack McConnell on 14 Mar 2002.
