£1.1 million to the National Trust for Scotland for the Mackintosh Illuminated Project

That the Parliament congratulates the National Lottery Heritage Fund on awarding £1.1 million to the National Trust for Scotland for the Mackintosh Illuminated project, which aims to celebrate Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald; notes that Hill House, in Helensburgh, and the Mackintosh at the Willow, on Sauchiehall Street, will be the focus of the project’s efforts to make Mackintosh and Macdonald better known and appreciated, internationally and at home, by encouraging more people to visit the sites to get a better understanding of the pair’s work and impact; understands that the funding will also enable the trust to continue vital conservation work at the Hill House, which has been impacted by chronic damp since it was completed in 1904; further understands that a pioneering chainmail box, which was installed in 2019, has successfully allowed the house to dry out slowly, and understands that this new funding will enable the trust to move forward with the full removal of the current render, find a replacement to resolve the longstanding damp issue, remove the box in 2028, and provide updated permanent visitor facilities at the site.
