The answer
The Scottish Government publishes annual statistics on support staff in schools, including school library staff. From 2010-2016, figures were published as part of the Teacher census supplementary statistics - gov.scot. From 2017 onwards, figures on school library staff are published as part of the School support staff statistics - gov.scot.We do not hold statistics from earlier than 2010.YearLibrary staff20103412011343201228820132692014276201525220162432017276201826620192652020260202123420222582023242*the number of librarians in these statistics relates to full-time equivalents (FTE).Staff that work in a community library setting that forms a joint school and public library facility are not included in the above statistics.Responsibility for the provision of school library services, including the recruitment of library staff, is the statutory duty of local authorities.
