That the Parliament congratulates Derek Pierce, Managing Director of J & D Pierce (Contracts) Limited, on being named Entrepreneur of the Year 2018 at this year’s Summit Entrepreneurship Awards; notes that J & D Pierce was founded in 1975 by Jim Pierce, Derek’s father, and that Derek joined the company in 1982 on leaving school before the business moved to its current 9.5 acre site in Glengarnock, North Ayrshire, in 1999; considers that Derek has helped oversee the company’s growth from a one-man business to Scotland’s foremost structural steelwork contractor with a workforce of more than 350; understands that the company has trained almost its entire highly skilled workforce from scratch, most of whom come from, and still live in, the Garnock Valley, and considers therefore that this is a huge asset to the local community; believes that Derek personifies Scotland's entrepreneurial talent and is a well-deserved winner of the accolade of Entrepreneur of the Year, and wishes him every success in leading the company to even greater heights.
