The rural support plan that was published just yesterday is a huge let-down. It is not just me who is saying that—many stakeholders are, too. Importantly, the figures in the plan amount to a real-terms cut of about £250 million, which is a huge decrease in funding to our rural...

04 Mar 2026 · S6 · Rural Affairs and Islands Committee
Item of business
Wildfires in Scotland
Carson, Finlay Con Galloway and West Dumfries Watch on SPTV
The second item on our agenda is an evidence session on wildfires in Scotland. We will take evidence from stakeholders who have expertise in, and an understanding of, wildfires. I will ask them to introduce themselves in a moment. We have allocated about two hours for the discussion, and we have quite a few participants, so I ask everyone to be succinct in their questions and answers. You can indicate to me and the clerks if you wish to participate at any point, but there is no expectation that you will contribute to every question, particularly if a point has already been made or if it does not relate to your area of expertise. You do not need to work your microphones, as the gentleman in broadcasting will do that for you.I ask stakeholders to introduce themselves, starting on my right.
