It is very important to nail that misapprehension immediately. It is absolutely clear that the proposals in “Scotland’s Place in Europe” do not require Scotland or the UK to make a choice of trading partners north and south of the border. That trade is actually to the UK’s benefit by a significant sum. There is no requirement for a choice on either side, so Mr Lamont should be able to move on from that without any worry at all, and reassure his local farmers.
