Continued Petitions
Shared Space Schemes (Moratorium) (PE1595)
I agree with that. In some of the submissions that we have received, there appears to be a belief or a misconception that the committee has the authority to order local authorities not to do things. I have to put it on the record that we do not have that authority. We can scrutinise what is happening and ask for a policy direction to be looked at, but we cannot make a ruling on the ability of a local authority to implement such a scheme, and we certainly cannot order a planning authority to undo decisions that it has made.
