Off-sales Alcohol Purchases (Age Limit) (PE1187 and PE1191)
It was said earlier that if the Government cannot get the proposal through at national level, it will introduce it at local level. I want to clarify the situation: the Government has no authority or mandate over local licensing boards at local authority level. If a board felt that it was appropriate to introduce a byelaw, it would be up to the board to do so. The Government cannot influence the boards either way.I have two questions on what Mr French said. First, what is the panel's response to retailers being caught selling alcohol to underage people? You mentioned some measures that you would like to see put in place. Secondly, you talked about those who can and those who cannot afford to drink.
