National Health Service<br />(Charges for Drugs and Appliances) (Scotland) Regulations 2007 (SSI 2007/139)
That is one of the issues on which a significant number of consultation responses were received. The annual prescription charge for a person who has a chronic condition and who pays for all their prescriptions for a 12-month period remains at less than £100. That is not unreasonable, but for people who are on low incomes it can be a challenge to find that sum at one time. A number of responses to the consultation suggest that there may be other or better ways of addressing the issue of charges for those who pay for more than an occasional prescription. That is one of the issues that we will consider when responding to the report.
