National Islands Plan
The single issue that was raised most by participants in the consultation’s discussion events was transport. The proposed plan recognises the considerable cost of transport within, to and from the islands, the effect on affordability and the wider impact on the islands’ economies, but although parts of it relate to ferries, there is no discussion whatsoever of existing or new fixed links between islands. Will the minister, at the very least, make a commitment that consideration of the future of fixed links will be part of the implementation plan when it arrives?
