No, I do not think so. The Lord Advocate has made suggestions, understandably and correctly, about removing his role from certain parts of the legislation. I am not saying that you are old, Mr McLetchie, but you and I will remember the days of a Conservative Government when there was a Tory Lord Advocate in the Crown Office who was a member of the Government but who was still independent and gave proper independent advice. As I understand the way in which the current Scottish Government administers its affairs, the Lord Advocate is not involved in overtly political matters and attends Cabinet only when he is required to give independent legal advice.When the Lord Advocate comes to the committee later this afternoon, he can explain his role and why he wants to remove himself from certain parts of the legislation.
